A daily insight from over 40 years of business Rockstardom with a musical twist.

The Rockin’ Boardroom host Frank G. queues up The Monkee’s “Auntie Grazelda” from the 1967 The Monkee’s album to present his theme of how “change makers” in business sometimes feel. Getting employees, co-workers or even management to cooperate with the acceptance and implementation of change is a difficult and lonely job. The “Auntie Grazelda” attitude of preconceived notioins and this too shall pass and you will fail in your efforts to win us over, is difficult to work through.

The Rockin’ Boardroom host Frank G. queues up Steve Winwood’s “If You See A Chance” to underscore his points on how in this fast paced and challanging business environment it is important not to pass up chances to implement ideas for securing the operational capacity of our businesses. Labor and supply chain constraints are having enormous impacts on the abilities of all businesses to produce and deliver there products and services. … now is not the time to procrastinate. If you see a chance take it… or your competition will! Music Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXWXpDiHbZo

The Rockin’ Boardroom host Frank G. queues up Linda Rondstat’s “You’re No Good” to underscore his points on how as business people we sometimes forsake our own solid ideas for other’s that seem “sexier” or are better spoken for by their convincing suggestors. Then we get somewhere down the road of implementation only to realize that the idea sucks! … and we repent our having jilted a perfectly good and workable but less “sexy” idea! Of course that could work either way…. maybe you’re no good! Music Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bj_32QeAaU

The Rockin’ Boardroom host Frank G. queues up The Who’s “Baba O’Reilly” to underscore his point on how in the arena of ideas that is business, how important it is to not give up on our own ideas. The ideas that will push our businesses into the next level, or higher profits, or a better work environmennt… whatever the objective… may sometimes have us feeling as though we are pushing a rope up hill. It’s important that we remain focused and know that we must keep pushing on … it is worth it. We must lead our teams to the objective.

The Rockin’ Boardroom host Frank G. queues up Bob Seager’s “Rock and Roll Never Forgets” to underscore his points on how the dynamic nature of business structures and strategies can sometimes be depressing. Huge changes in technology and consumerism can especially have us feeling less bold because of our lack of understanding things aren’t what they were. Keeping up with all the development and changes can be overwhelming and have us questioning our abilities … or even if we want to continue … its best left up to the “young.” We have to make the decision, to learn what’s needed to play the game… or continue in our old way… accepting the consequences. The Rockin’ Boardroom host Frank G. queues up Leon Russell’s “Tightrope” to underscore his points on how doing business right is like walking a tightrope. The business person must travel the shortest distance between between the commencement of the deal or project and the deliverable with the careful balancing of all of the components that make it possible. Both the obligations and the needs of the stakeholders, the stockholders and customers must be carried across the span with fire on one side and Ice on the other. Today Frank G talks about the great business quality of insanity. There has to be insanity in any great business person or in any great company. He presents a list of people who have changed the world… they were all called crazy … insane in their time. They thought differently, they did not accept current reality of their businesses or industries, and so therefore they were commonly thought of as insane in their time. People who think that they can change the world typically are disruptors who are thought of as being disruptors who think differently and are labeled crazy. But people who can change the world … are usually the ones that do. Frank G. cues up Aerosmith’s “Toys In The Attic” (which is a euphemism for insanity) the title track from their 1975 album, to underscore his point. We are entering the “Post Pandemic” period. We are all going to measure the changes … some huge… in our businesses and life in general and have to come to terms with what our new normal will be. It will be emotional. Upon the breakup of The James Gang, Joe Walsh became depressed for a period of time and decided to break out of it and get up to bat with the bases loaded… a solo career…. Rocky Mountain Way is what resulted. Music Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1uWA7VPGiE

In this episode of The Rockin’ Boardroom’s daily spin, Frank G talks about how making things happen in business is a collaborative effort. The ideas of more than just the business head hancho are sounded in order to create and implement a creation… or a solution. In the process some ideas are left on the cutting room floor. Frank illustrates this with story of Don Henley’s 1984 hit “The Boys of Summer”… Music Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ol3vyiu-klg

In this episode Frank G uses Billy Joel’s hit “I’m Movin’ Out (Anthony’s song)” to illustrate how we can lose sight of our overall objectives in business and life with distractions of the moment to moment issues that come up. So many times we get into situations that pull us off of our end game objectives. Frank position is that we don’t necessarily need to trade the Chevy for a Cadillac … maybe even take the bus… as you go through your day …look at the transactional elements and think about what you really need to do … or how you should treat them, in light of your ultimate objective… do what’s only necessary in that respect… and move on… music video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nfEYV7nWc0

Love is a term that indeed has a business connotation. Do you love your work, your co-workers or employees … do you love the dealmaking or the innovation? What happens when any of those applications of your love do not work out? … when your love walks out the door? you are jilted or disappointed. In today’s episode Frank G talks about his concept of the “Humilitist” a person who achieves without self ceremony or exultation… who is respectful of others on the way up because they are the same individuals they will pass on the way down. The humilitist is does not suffer from low self image, inferiority complex, or lack of confidence or a sense of unworthiness in the boardroom. Rather the quite the opposite. In order to be “humble” you have had to achieve something. Paper tigers invent themselves… humilitists achieve themselves. Music Video:

Peace of Mind is harder to come by for business people these days… it is no longer only the worry about personal advancement, competition at the retail level … but now everyday there is another business threatening issue dropped on the boardroom table… Frank illustrates this from his own experiences in this episode.
